The Art of Bargain Shopping

Bargains are every girl’s best friend. But they’re not always so easy to come by. Bar again shopping is one of my absolute favorite hobbies. My best friend and I even have a little competition every time we shop together to see who can get the best bargain of the day.

Her and I having a frappé after a long day of shopping. That leather jacket she’s wearing, she scored thrifted for $12! She definitely beat me that day!

There are many factors to take in to consideration while bargain shopping. Here are a few I’ve come up with from experience.
What Season Is It?
At the end of every season there are always huge clearance sales so that stores can rid themselves of last season’s trends. TIP: I have found the transition from winter to spring (RIGHT NOW!) to be the best bargain shopping season, because outerwear, boots and sweaters, items that are generally more pricey than other types of clothing, are marked off significantly.

(Excuse the mirror pic. Lol. I’m lacking a decent photographer at the moment) I scored this boho-beachy style BillaBong sweatshirt at PacSun just the other day for $10 with their big 70% off sale! HOLLA! (Yes, I just said holla. Don’t judge.)
Know Your Stores
A lot of how much you spend on an item depends on what stores you shop at and how much you’re willing to spend. Obviously if you’re shopping at Anthropology, you’re probably not going to find anything on sale for $10. But you could find some good deals compared to the original price. Personally, I have a poor college-kid budget, so I like to find things AS CHEAP AS POSSIBLE. So I’ve found that places like Forever21 are my kinda place; where I can easily get a top on sale for $5. When shopping like this, quality is also something to consider.
Know Your Style
Often times I have found myself in the rush of a huge sale, drawn in by the ridiculously cheap prices, and end up just throwing everything on the counter. I may be getting a good deal, buuuuut know I have a bunch of crap I won’t wear! Before you go in to a sale, know what you like and have an idea of what types of things you would actually wear. I know it’s hard, but in the middle of the rush of the sale, try to slow down and really examine the item and think ‘Would I actually wear this?’

I found these BullHead Denim coated skinnies on sale also at PacSun for $10!

Cardigan: on sale for $7 at JC Penney
Pleather knee-patched leggings: on sale for $10 at Charlotte Russe
Studded flats: on sale for $1.97 at JC Penney!!
Bag: on sale for $11.99

Forever21 ruched side dress for around $15! I’ve gotten a ton of compliments saying it looks designer!

Bargain shopping season is in and bargain hunting is ON! Happy hunting!

Let’s go Boho: High-End Boho Styles for Less

As spring rolls around, (well it’s supposed to be…but it’s still 30 degrees in Kansas) a new trend is beginning to arise. Bohemian Chic. I fell in love with this style the minute I saw it! You may have seen pictures of some of the celebs sporting it in sunny California, but I think I’ll wait for it to warm up before I bring out the maxis and high waisted shorts! As I’m anxiously waiting, I’ve done some research on styles and pricing, and I’ve found that most of the celebrities’ ensembles are not cheap! (Go figure!) But I have found very similar pieces and created some ensembles that are much more economical and equally as stunning. Hopefully this will help you make your paycheck last longer and get you more bang for your buck! In my opinion, this is one of the cutest bohemian ensembles I’ve seen, worn my Vanessa Hudgens. (I’m a little obsessed with her style, if you haven’t already noticed from my previous posts!)

The good news is, I have found almost an exact replica of this outfit for super cheap!

Now, the most expensive item in this ensemble is the black dress. These are relatively hard to find in this style, but I have found one on for $39. That’s more than I would usually spend on one item, but this look is SUPER cute, so I think it’s worth it! I found this jacket on for-get this!- SIXTEEN DOLLARS AND NINETY SEVEN CENTS! Now that is a dang good deal for a military jacket! The boots I found on for only twenty bucks! And the necklace I found at Forever21 for $6.80!
Not only is this look perfectly styled and absolutely adorable, but it’s also super cheap…and you now know where to get everything! There’s a ton of other bohemian style outfits to be created out there, as well! How cheap can you create a boho chic ensemble? If you have a huge success, I would love to see your ensemble! Keep it cheap, and Let’s Go Boho!

How to style faux leather leggings

If you love the look of leather leggings, but just don’t know how to wear them, you are not alone. Leather leggings are a hot trend this season that all of the celebs are wearing. But many fashionistas around the world are a bit hesitant of this new fad. How do you wear them? Where can you find them? Can I afford them? These are all frequently asked questions. And I have an answer to all of them.

Contrary to what the leather leggings are tied to, (grunge & rock) these fashion forward statement pieces can easily be dressed up, adding a chic finish to your work or event attire. By simply pairing with a blazer and some chic heels, these leggings can go from cool to classy in minutes!

Not only are these fashion must-haves good at dressing things up, they are also great for giving your casual outfit a chic finish. They have been known to look much better with roomy/baggy tops and lots of layers. When dressing them down, adding sneakers or boots, an oversized tee or sweater, and a beanie will nearly always be phenomenal. This will certainly give you that cool and comfy look everyone is striving for this season!

Now that you know how to style them you think “Okay, so where can I find some?” And “Can I afford them?” While there are endless styles of designer ones that range from $100 to $1,000, I have managed to steal some pretty great bargains on a couple pairs, of awesome quality, too. I found a pair that are only front paneled leather, with zippered front and back pockets at Forever21 for an amazing price of $15. However, they do also sell entirely leather pairs for around the same price. I also snagged a great pair of coated denim (black jeans that have been coated in a shiny finish to get a leather look) from PacSun, the brand being Bullhead Denim. These babies were originally around $50 but I scored them on sale for $10! Champion bargain shopper right here! 🙂 They are both super comfy, and contrary to many’s assumptions, are very flexible and not stiff at all. I would highly recommend investing in a pair from one of these places.

So now that you know leather leggings can be dressed up with a blazer and heels, dressed down with an oversized top and sneakers, are super affordable and really comfortable, what’s holding you back from getting a pair!? If you haven’t already, I would highly recommend investing in this super hot fashion trend!

Edgy Grunge

Look Of The Day! Today’s look featured a grunge look with a twist of edge. My sweater, from Forever21, would probably be considered more grunge, based on the color palette and oversized fit. The necklace correlates well with the color of my sweater, and also with the grunge theme, making it a must. I scored these faux leather knee patch leggings at Charlotte Russe for $12 a couple months ago, and added them to the ensemble to give it some edge, along with the combat boots. Today’s look was super comfy and easy, and I got tons of compliments on it! Try finding an oversized top with tons of character and simply adding leggings and boots, to make this look your own! And you can rock this comfy, stylish look too!
